Frequently Asked Questions
How often is data updated?
The universe engine runs continuously throughout the trading day — pre-market, mid-morning, midday, early afternoon, after close, and overnight. Market breadth, RS ratings, scan lists, and fundamentals refresh automatically. Earnings Intel pulls from SEC EDGAR continuously during market hours. Catalyst detection runs every 2 minutes during market hours to identify why stocks are gapping.
What is the RS Rating and how is it calculated?
RS measures a stock's price performance vs the S&P 500 over the trailing 12 months. The most recent 3 months are weighted 2x to emphasize recent momentum. The result is normalized to a 1–99 scale across all 5,000+ stocks in the universe. Stocks above 80 are market leaders — the top 20%.
How does Earnings Intelligence work?
Every SEC 8-K Item 2.02 filing is fetched from EDGAR within minutes. Claude Haiku reads the actual filing text and extracts EPS beat/miss, revenue beat, guidance direction, and key quotes. Use the RAISES GUIDE filter to find companies that raised forward guidance — the most actionable signal for momentum traders.
How is ADR% used for position sizing?
ATR$ (Average True Range in dollars) is the key column. Divide your risk amount by ATR$ to get your share count. Example: $500 risk / $2.50 ATR = 200 shares. This keeps your risk consistent regardless of stock price.
What is a Distribution Day?
A day where a major index falls in price on higher volume than the prior day — indicating institutional selling. ScanInsight tracks SPY, QQQ, and IWM over a 25-day rolling window. 5 or more DDs = significant overhead supply. Reduce exposure and tighten stops.
How is YoY growth calculated in the Stock Profile?
The fundamentals table shows 8 quarters of reported EPS and revenue. YoY growth compares each quarter to the same quarter one year prior — so Q1'26 is compared to Q1'25, Q2'26 to Q2'25, etc. This comparison uses the full historical dataset, even though only 8 quarters are displayed. That means Q1'25 through Q4'25 will show YoY growth numbers even though their prior-year quarters (Q1'24–Q4'24) are not visible in the table. Growth values above 100% are highlighted in white to make standout acceleration easy to spot.
Why do some companies show non-calendar fiscal quarters (Q3'26 ending in Oct 2025)?
Companies set their own fiscal year end dates. NVDA's fiscal year ends in January, so their Q4 FY2026 ended January 31, 2026 — already reported as of February 2026. AAPL's fiscal year ends in September. Quarter labels always follow the company's own fiscal year numbering, which matches what they report in their SEC filings and what TradingView displays. The fiscal year end for each company is pulled from EDGAR's submissions API.
